Major Activities

The major objective of the Tropical Health Foundation of India is to provide, early identification and rehabilitation of the disabled, care of elderly and promote appropriate technology.

To achieve these goals we are involved in running:

  • Artificial Limb Centre (Prosthetics and Orthotics centre) where we treat amputees and other physically disabled. Here we provide all kinds of aids and appliances (Recognised by Govt. of India).

  • Special School for the differently abled (Recognised by Department of Public Instruction (DPI) Govt. of Kerala).

  • Neuro Developmental Centre for developmental delay (NDC).

  • Certificate course in Prosthetics and Orthotics (Recognised by rehabilitation council of India (RCI).

  • SPARSH vocational training unit for parents and families of disabled children.

  • PRERANA project for early identification and Intervention in childhood disability.

  • Neonatal Screening for BERA ( Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometry )

Other Activities

The major objective of the Tropical Health Foundation of India is to provide, early identification and rehabilitation of the disabled, care of elderly and promote appropriate technology. To achieve these goals we are involved in running:

  • Partnership with Interplast Germany: An internationally reputed German group of Plastic & Maxillo facial surgeons who have been doing yeomen service in the field of corrective surgery in children with cleft lip, palate & burns contracture. Successful camps have been conducted at Allied Hospital, Kunnamkulam, Tirupur Govt. Hospital with the help of Rotary Club of Tirupur South, Ramakrishna Mission Hospital, Coimbatore with the support of Rotary Club of Coimbatore Mid Town. In these three camps more than 300 patients were operated free of cost.

  • Corrective Surgery : With Rotary Jaipur Limb Trust (UK), several cases of physical handicap have been operated under this scheme in Malankara, Royal and Unity Hospital Kunnamkulam. Cerebral Palsy, Post polio, club foot and other Orthopaedic handicaps were operated under this project.

  • Teenage Vision Camp: Organised during 2003 summer at THFI-Special School for training youth. Nearly 50 teenagers participated in this personality development summer camp. Dr. Jean & Richard Bedell - USA, Prof. Lathi - Holy Cross College - Trichy, Mr. Alfred Ramesh - Trichy, Dr. Usha S. Nair – LNCPE - Trivandrum, Dr. Arun Kishore, Psychiatrist, and Medical College Thrissur were some of the key resource persons.

  • Summer Camp for the school children with the support of World Vision, India held in Bethany St. John's School over 100 children participated.

  • Sponsorship Scheme: Efforts are into find financial support for the rehabilitate of the poor children. Individuals and institutions have started supporting this scheme.

  • Multipurpose Village Development Centre: Development of our property at Athoor, Kadangode Panchayath to provide primary health, women development, care of the disabled and elderly.

  • Partnership with Rotary Club: Through the Rotary Wheel Chair Initiative we could help more than 300 disabled people.

  • Die Bundeswehr, Germany: A team from Die Bundeswehr, Germany screened nearly 60 disabled people for fitting their latest technology limbs on Indians.40 below knee amputees were benefited with this latest technology limbs.
